Bog walks begin

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers guided weekly Tannersville Bog walks, beginning June 8.

These 2.5-hour walks will be guided by an environmental educator from the center who will teach attendees about the bog, a very unique boreal bog for this area, owned by the Nature Conservancy. The bog is filled with songbirds and interesting insect-eating plants.

Participants will meet at the bog parking lot by 10 a.m.

There is a cost and preregistration is required To preregister, call the center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information on other programs being offered, visit the website at www.mcconservation.org.

Polk Auxiliary

The Ladies Auxiliary of Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is holding its yard sale and craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11.

Those wishing to reserve a spot should call 570-977-1492.

Summer reading

Western Pocono Community Library’s in-person Summer Reading Program returns in June. The program theme for 2022 is Oceans of Possibilities and it will run June 12 through July 28. Participants must register. Visit the WPCL Circulation Desk or www.westernpoconocommunitylibrary.org to register.

Strawberry Fest

Strawberries are starting to ripen so think St. Matthew’s UCC Strawberry Festival, picnic and 18th annual car show coming in Kunkletown on Father’s Day, June 19, rain or shine.

It will include breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., worship at 10, and the grill reopening for lunch after the worship service and remaining open until 6 p.m.

Registration for the car show begins at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

And the entertainment will be by the Brian Dean Moore Band from noon to 2 p.m. and by the Cramer Brothers Band from 3 to 5 p.m.

In addition, Laymen’s Fellowship will be holding a raffle.
