State police at Schuylkill Haven - crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on crashes:

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 8:38 p.m. on April 27 along Route 895 in South Manheim Township, Schuylkill County.

Police said Byron L. Rice, 55, of Orwigsburg, driving a 2007 Subaru Forester, was following Kevin C. Fontinel, 43, of Auburn, who was driving a 1990 Honda motorcycle, as both were eastbound. Upon exiting a curve Rice’s vehicle rear-ended the bike. The bike left the road and sideswiped a tree before coming to rest on an embankment.

Fontinel was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, with suspected serious injuries. Rice was not injured.

Rice was cited for following too closely. He showed signs of impairment and a DUI charge is pending test results, troopers added.

• Troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash at 6:07 a.m. on May 14 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Franklin H. Costenbader, 34, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma truck was sitting at a red light at a jug handle waiting to go onto Pottsville Street that intersects with Route 61.

Andrew D. Yeselski, 29, of Frackville, driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado truck, was southbound in the left lane and had the green light approaching the intersection. Costenbader went through the solid red light and into the path of Yeselski and a collision occurred.

Costenbader had a minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville. Yeselski was not injured. Costenbader was cited for a red light violation.
