Summit Hill gas station burglarized, police report unrelated arrests
Summit Hill police are investigating a burglary that happened earlier this month at a gas station/store in the community.
Police Chief Todd Woodward reported it happened between the late evening hours of May 13 and the early morning hours of May 14 at the Pereira 5 Gas station.
Police said the suspect(s) left with an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Summit Hill Police Department.
Other incidents
In other reports, Woodward said three people were charged after traffic stops made by borough officers.
On April 4 at 10:51, police halted the driver of a vehicle that they said was driving carelessly. The stop resulted in Tonia Jasinsky, 36, of Summit Hill, being charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while her license is suspended, careless driving and operating a vehicle that had a rear light out.
On April 5 at 12:50 a.m., a 17-year-old juvenile was stopped while operating a vehicle. Woodward said the juvenile was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. The driver was also issued a junior driver’s license citation.
The third arrest came after a stop at 6:56 p.m. April 23 when police observed the vehicle had an expired inspection. The driver of the vehicle, Travis Favors, 57, of Coaldale, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, altering a registration plate, and the inspection violation.
Two others charged
Woodward reported two other people were charged after police encountered them in separate incidents.
On April 15 at 10:47 p.m., police said they encountered Michael Kinsey, 30, of Summit Hill. Police said he provided a false name to them and was charged with false identification to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On May 10 at 9:42 p.m., police said they had an encounter with John Cope Jr., 35, of Lansford, during which time it was learned he had a warrant against him out of Virginia. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, where he is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
Assists task force
Woodward said borough police assisted the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and the Carbon County Drug Task Force at 1 p.m. May 13 in serving a warrant on Francis Chambers II, 34, of 272 W. Ludlow St. During a search for the suspect, officers recovered a stolen firearm.
Chambers was transported via the Sheriff’s Office to the Carbon County Correctional Facility for the warrant and was subsequently charged with receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.
