Bike Night set

The public is invited to the Bike Night at the Legion in Gilbert, from 5 to 9 p.m., June 4. It will include a Best Bike contest.

Burgers, dogs, sides, cash bar and a 50/50 drawing are part of the evening.

Library changes

The Western Pocono Community Library has announced time changes for June including Adult Rock Painting, which will change to 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month and Adult Glass Painting, will change to 3 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month beginning in June.

WPCL’s Toddler Rhythm program at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Books & Babies program at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays will continue throughout the summer.

TOPS new site

TOPS PA 1113 Kresgeville will be changing its meeting site to Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, 138 Trach Road, Kresgeville, 18333, starting June 1.

Anyone who has failed in the past or is currently interested in losing weight and sustaining that weight loss may be able to get help from this group.

TOPS International is a nonprofit support group with members who all have the same interest in living a healthier lifestyle. The group meets at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Attendees are invited come early for a short social gathering and then an informative meeting.

Carnival ahead

On June 2, 3 and 4, the West End Fireman’s carnival is scheduled to take place at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. The proceeds from that event will benefit the four local fire companies.

Bands being featured include: starting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, The Hawks and the Cramer Brothers Band; starting at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Chris Eckert and the Brian Dean Moore Band; and Saturday, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Brothers; and from 6 to 9 p.m., Midnight Special.

Various foods and drinks will be available every night.

Sponsors are still being sought and craft vendors wanted.

Triple treat event

Salem UCC, Gilbert, is hosting a Triple Treat event June 4 and 5.

Those treats are: an ice cream social, a basket raffle and a yard sale.

The ice cream portion will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days with other light refreshment also for sale.

The basket raffle, with many great prizes, will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the winning tickets drawn at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The yard sale allows one to rent a 10-by-10-foot space for one or both days to sell items for a set fee per day. For rates, call 610-681-4733.

Tables and chairs are not provided; renters must bring their own.

Salem UCC welcomes guests passing through or people looking to begin their spiritual journey and set down roots in this church. All are welcome. The weekly service begins at 10 a.m. every Sunday.

Summer meals

The PVEN’s free summer meals are available for kids 18 and under. Meals must be eaten on site as grab and go meals are not available at this time due to a change in USDA regulations.

Anyone with children age 18 and under is encouraged to take advantage of this free meal service, from June 6 through Aug. 19 at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715, Brodheadsville, Mondays from 12:30 to 1 p.m.; Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, Tuesdays, from 11:30 a.m. to noon; or the Sun Valley Fire Station in Effort, Thursdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

PVEN’s current needs include mac and cheese, cereal, cake mix and diced tomatoes for the food pantry and personal care products, sheets and towels, bras & sports bras, paper towels and toilet paper, cleaning products and laundry detergent for the clothing closet.

Summer reading

The Western Pocono Community Reading Program returns in June. The theme is Oceans of Possibilities. It will run June 12 through July 28. Participants must register. Visit the WPCL Circulation Desk or www.westernpoconocommunitylibrary.org to register.

WE Wings event

On Father’s Day, the West End Wings, a Sport Model Airplane and Helicopter Club dedicated to the art of radio-controlled flying and building, will hold its 44th annual Father’s Day event at its field in Effort.

Admission is free.

Conservation camp

Monroe County Conservation District and Monroe County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs are sponsoring Monroe County Conservation Camp from July 16-23 at Stony Acres.

Supported by the Kettle Creek Environmental Fund, the camp program presenters include professionals from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Tobyhanna Conservation Association, Blue Ridge/Cherry Valley Rod and Gun Club, National Park Service, Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, and Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center. The campers are provided with many programs to teach them about wildlife and natural resource conservation/management.

The application fee must be paid by the student and included with the application. The camp fee may be paid by the student, a sponsoring organization, or by a scholarship. A limited amount of scholarships are available by request.
