The Jim Thorpers Bicycle Team is hosting a basket raffle Friday at the Fairview Hose Company Social Club, Ninth and School streets, at 5:00 p.m.

A variety of themed baskets and gift cards to local restaurants and other businesses will be available. A drawing will start at 8 p.m., but you do not need to be present to win.

In addition, there are blockbusters including a child’s mountain bike, an Irish beverage basket, a Bear Creek Mountain two-night stay and spa package, and a Margaritaville frozen slushee maker, to name a few prizes.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Over 100 Jim Thorpers are registered for the 35th annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour on July 24. Cyclists have the option of riding 65 miles from Philly to Atlantic City or a new 30-mile option from Hammonton to Atlantic City. The Jim Thorpers Team Captain is Sgt. Michael Dugan, station commander, Pa. State Police at Troop T Pocono Station. He first completed the ride back in 2010 with his sister’s team. He started The Jim Thorpers in 2011 with just two riders and membership has grown to more than 100 participants. Some years, there have been as many as 150 registered to ride.

The Jim Thorpers have raised over $360,000 over the years. Money raised by the team benefits the Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to supporting the families of first responders who are killed or severely injured in the line of duty. Since 2015, The Jim Thorpers Bike Team has reached fundraising milestones and received money back from The Ben to the Shore Bike Tour to donate to local children’s charities.

Other fundraising events planned are a food sale at Bright Path Brewery on June 11, Tithing Tuesday at Union Publick House from 4-9 p.m. on June 14, and the 2nd annual golf tournament at Mountain Laurel Golf Club on July 9.
