W. Penn schedules date for public hearing on zoning ordinance

West Penn Township has scheduled a public hearing to review the draft of its zoning ordinance.

Township solicitor Paul J. Datte informed the township last week that they now have the final version of the zoning ordinance.

“We do need to schedule a public hearing,” Datte said. “I anticipate having the ordinance for adoption at the July 5 meeting.”

Afterward, supervisors unanimously agreed to advertise the hearing for 5:30 p.m. July 5.

The board’s regular monthly meeting will follow immediately afterward.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said the board has several comments they’d like to have added.

Datte said that wouldn’t be a problem.

“A long time coming, but we’re there,” he said.

Last month, Datte said he was notified by Urban Research & Development Corporation that the final version of the zoning ordinance were expected to be ready.

The proposed new zoning ordinance would regulate the uses of land and structures, with various standards in different zoning districts.

It would also regulate signs, parking, the location and height of structures, and changes to existing structures, lots and uses that do not “conform” to the ordinance.

The ordinance would also include enforcement and penalty provisions.

It also includes zoning districts, allowed uses in each district, dimensional requirements for each district, additional requirements for specific uses, environmental protection, off-street parking and loading, signs, general regulations, administration and enforcement, definitions and a new zoning map.
