Mounting pressure from Tamaqua residents has prevailed over a decision by the J.J. Newberry Co. to close its Tamaqua store.
An official of the firm announced today the store, which closed on Saturday after more than 40 years as a downtown institution, will reopen.
James Snyder, Newberry’s real estate director for the East Coast, said the company received more than 120 letters from residents requesting the store remain open. “The pressure just kept growing,” Snyder said.
