Marian Catholic has named Scott Murphy its new head boys basketball coach.
Murphy brings over a decade of coaching experience to the position, including a pair of stints as an assistant coach in the Colts’ program.
Murphy served as a Marian assistant from 2005-2010, helping the 2009-10 Colts capture a District 11 Class 1A championship. Murphy also served as the Marian JV coach this past season.
In addition to his time at Marian, Murphy was an assistant on the North Schuylkill boys basketball staff from 2010-2015 .
In a press release announcing Murphy as the new coach, the school said “We are thrilled to have coach Murphy lead the boys’ basketball program.
“The administration feels that coach Murphy will be the right coach to continue the legacy and tradition of Marian Catholic basketball that has been so successful over the history of the school, while infusing a culture within the program that aligns with the core values of ‘Being Marian.’”
Murphy is replacing John Patton as head coach. In 12 seasons at Marian, Patton had a career record of 175-105 (a .625 winning percentage). The Colts qualified for the District 11 playoffs all 12 years under Patton, winning championships in 2011 and 2017.
