A razor-thin Republican victory by Lisa J. Scheller, chairman of the Silberline Manufacturing Company in Hometown, set the stage for a General Election rematch between her and incumbent U.S. Rep. Susan Wild in balloting for the 7th Congressional District seat.
Scheller defeated Kevin W. Dellicker by just 1,696 votes - 34,148 to 32,452 - to win the nomination in balloting that took place in Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe and Carbon counties.
Wild was unopposed on the Democratic ticket and received 62,330 complimentary votes.
The district includes all of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties and parts of Monroe County, including the townships of Eldred and Polk, and a portion of Ross Township.
The two candidates actually split the district, with Scheller winning by a 14,684 to 12,146 margin in Northampton County and having a 732 to 634 edge in Monroe County balloting.
Dellicker defeated Scheller both in Lehigh, 15,758 to 15,223, and Carbon, 3,914 to 3,509.
