Lansford Historical Society holds open house

The Lansford Historical Society invites the public to attend their annual spring open house. The event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the museum, located at 117 E. Bertsch St. in Lansford.

Many war and military items from World War I and World War II, including vintage uniforms and newspaper articles, will be showcased.

Another feature of the open house will be a display with photographs, dinnerware, logos and signs from Lehigh Coal and Navigation’s Old Company Club, which later became Edgemont Lodge.

The building was built in 1910 for $35,000 and was used by the company as a clubhouse and meeting place for officials. After the building was sold, it was used as a restaurant and banquet hall and living quarters. Over the years, the venue provided live entertainment and hosted numerous parties and wedding receptions. Most recently, it was used as a personal care facility.

President Bill Harleman is looking forward to seeing many visitors at the museum on Sunday.

“A lot of time is spent preparing for the spring open house, and we invite the public to see our displays that were set up for this event. We also invite everyone to see the many new additions to the museum.”

Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. Donations are always accepted.

The military display will remain up in the museum through Memorial Day weekend. For those who can’t attend the open house and would like to see the displays, the museum is open from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

More information can be found on the historical society’s Facebook page or by contacting Harleman at 570-617-4683.

The Lansford Historical Society will honor the area's military history during an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Another open house is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on May 29. CHRIS REBER/TIMES NEWS
