Nora Jimenez and her daughter Alice Soriano-Jimenez always dreamed about opening their own pet grooming business and now their dream has come true.

“My mom and I have always had animals. Growing up there wasn’t a time we didn’t have a pet. Probably the only pet we never had was snakes,” said Alice.

The list of pets is long. “We always had dogs, birds, bunnies and we even had turkeys, and they were fun,” she said.

Starting when Alice was just 8 years old, she remembers going to look at grooming schools and thinking it would be awesome to learn how to become a pet groomer. “It looked like it would be so fun and both my mom and I talked about how we wanted to have our own business and work together,” she said.

Mother and daughter fulfilled their dream when they opened Blissful Clips Pet Grooming, in Jim Thorpe on Feb. 1.

They were eligible for a $1,000 small-business loan that helped them to purchase some of the equipment they needed to open, but they estimate with the expense of buying everything to be a full-scale grooming salon along with the rent for the building, it was easily $20,000.

They want to slowly build the business so they don’t get in over their heads, according to Nora.

This summer they plan to offer dog training and other activities as the Blissful Clips services expand.

“We want people to know we are a family business and my mother and I do all the grooming. We have taken our dogs to groomers before and there is more to clipping and washing someone’s pet,” Nora said.

Both mother and daughter agree that they try to make it the best experience for your pet and try to make it as stress free as possible while grooming your pets.

Services offered include pet grooming for dogs, cats and birds and doggy day care, no overnight stay.

Retail offerings including all-natural pet food, grooming products, toys, clothing, accessories, and more.
