Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Rush-Ryan Seniors
The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met on May 10 for the group’s anniversary dinner at Christ Church, Barnesville, with 51 members in attendance. The food was catered by Hess of Schuylkill Haven.
Doris Brobst made flower magnets and Gloria Gerhart donated cupcakes. Flower vases were chanced off and won by Diane Gould, John Taylor, Jean Machamer, Gladys Arner, Alice Tite and Larry Bower. A flower vase and kitchen set were won by Alice Tite and Beverly Barron.
Officers for 2022: President, Nancy Godenis; vice president, Cindy Godenis; secretary, Shirley Kaiser; and treasurer, Nancy Eisley.
There is a trip to Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre scheduled for May 16.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Christ Church, Barnesville, at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.
Memorial Day Parade
Tamaqua’s Annual Memorial Day Parade will be once again be hosted by the American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173 on May 30 at 10 a.m. Staging will begin at 9 a.m. by the old Maff Motors Building on East Broad Street. The American Legion Honor Guard will fire a volley over the War Memorial.
This year’s grand marshal is Karl Smulligan, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and Pennsylvania National Guard who honorably served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. Miss Layluh Greitz, 6, is this year’s Poppy Queen and is a Jr. ALA member.
There will be a memorial service at the Odd Fellows Cemetery after the parade and at the American Legion Post 173 following the service. Any group or organizations that would like to participate in the parade can call David Meredith at 570-668-3356.
Calvary Lewistown
Pastor Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and evening service at 7 p.m.
May 18 at 7 p.m., a prayer meeting is scheduled. May 26 will be an Ascension Day hymn sing at 7:15 p.m. at Steigerwalt’s Church of God, Route 443, west of McKeansburg. There will be a combined Memorial Day celebration service of Calvary and Zion Church on May 29 at 10:25 a.m. to be held at Calvary Evangelical.
Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on May 5 with 32 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “The Garden in Our Hearts.” A moment of silence was observed in memory of Nora Sheidy. Prayers are requested for Melody Weicker.
Officers for the 2022 year are: President, Jean Machamer; vice president, Mary Bittle; secretary, Ruthann Feane; and treasurer, Diane Gould.
The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.
St. Peter’s West Penn
Sunday: 9 a.m. worship service, Music Sunday; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; 1 p.m. St. Peter’s Dinner Theatre; no Confirmation Class; 6 p.m. Girl Scouts. May 17: Election Day. May 18: 7 p.m. Called To Care meeting. May 19: church office closed; 6 p.m. Cherub Choir rehearsal; 7:30 p.m. Senior Choir rehearsal. May 20: church office closed.
May 22: 9 a.m. worship service; 10:15 a.m. Sunday school; no Confirmation Class; 6 p.m. Girl Scouts.
Panther Valley Golden Agers
The Panther Valley Golden Age group met on May 9 with 11 members present. The meeting was opened with the reading “I Love You Mom.”
New officers for 2022: President, Diane Gould; vice president, Mary Bittle; secretary, Ruthann Feane; treasurer, Fran Golder.
Next meeting will be May 23 when a light picnic lunch will be served. A trip to Mount Airy Casino is being planned for August, with $15 slot play, dinner and a show.
The group meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 1 p.m. at the St. Ann Senior Apartments in Lansford.
American Primitive
Sunday worship service is at 10:30 a.m. at American Primitive Methodist Church. The service is available at www.tamaquachurch.org and www.facebook.com/PMChurchTamaqua.
There will be no Sunday school until further notice. Hope in the Mountains Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 57 Hunter St.
