Local Roundup: Results from May 3

The Marian and Jim Thorpe baseball teams rallied for victories on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Panther Valley and Pleasant Valley posted wins in baseball and softball action, while Tamaqua also earned a softball victory.

BASEBALL

Marian-Shenandoah Valley

Marian’s Rawlin Melendez connected for a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh inning in a 4-3 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Chase Petrilyak’s RBI-single in the opening inning put the Colts (10-6 overall; 5-5 SL) on the scoreboard, while Petrilyak later scored on a Jake Bobish’s RBI single to give the visitors a quick 2-0 lead.

The Blue Devils (11-5; 7-3) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, before Melendez delivered a pinch hit blast with a full count.

Petrilyak had a solo homer in the fifth and also added another single, double and scored twice. Bobish finished with eight strikeouts in the win.

Jim Thorpe-North Schuylkill

Drew Wimmer’s RBI-single in the top of the sixth inning allowed Ian Henkel to score the go-ahead run in Jim Thorpe’s 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

Henkel helped the Olympians (7-8 overall; 5-4 SL) take a 2-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI-double after James Lordi gave the visitors their first run with an RBI-single.

Chip Baldassano (two singles, a run scored) and Lordi (two singles, RBI) joined Henkel with multiple hits.

Lordi, meanwhile, tossed six-and-two-thirds innings with six strikeouts and two walks. Henkel came on in relief to record the save.

Collin McGee finished with two singles for the Spartans (6-8; 5-5).

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Panther Valley cruised to a 13-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

The Panthers scattered 10 of their 11 hits in a 13-run opening inning. Starting pitcher Cody Orsulak helped his cause with a three-run home run.

Tyler Black had the big day at the plate for the Panthers (12-4, 7-3 SL), recording a single, double, run scored and four RBIs. Michael Pascoe (two singles, two runs scored, two RBIs) and Andrew Kokinda (two singles, two runs scored) both added multiple hits.

Jack James finished with a single, double, run scored and three RBIs for the Wreckers (1-13, 0-9).

Pleasant Valley-PM East

Nate Mostosky tossed a complete game one-hit shutout to lead Pleasant Valley to a 3-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Mostosky recorded four strikeouts and walked one as the Bears played solid defense behind him. Jack Smale and Jake Gethen had both of PV’s (13-5, 12-5) hits, while Andrew Meitzler collected two RBIs, and Nate Loch scored twice after reaching on a pair of walks. Dominic Payan added the other run for the Bears after also reaching on a walk.

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

A three-run third inning helped propel Blue Mountain to a 5-1 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Dylan Sattazhan led the Eagles (9-6, 7-3 SL) with a single and two runs scored, while Andrew Rautzhan added a single, a run scored and an RBI.

Ian Rarick, Bastone and Michael Yeakel recorded the Indians’ (7-8, 2-7) three hits off Blue Mountain pitcher Mike Myro, who finished with nine strikeouts and one walk to earn the win.

The Eagles took a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning before the Indians added their lone run of the contest thanks to Brady O’Donnell fielder’s choice RBI, which plated Adam Bastone, who walked.

SOFTBALL

Pleasant Valley-PM East

Pleasant Valley scored multiple runs in every inning to gain a 14-3 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over rival Pocono Mountain East.

Hailey Krock had three hits, one a double, and scored two runs for the Bears, who tallied three runs in each of the first four innings.

PV also received a pair of hits and three RBIs from Jovie Valenzuela, while Brianca Pridham contributed two hits and knocked in a pair of runs. Eve Kratzer finished with three RBIs, and Lydia Borger had two hits and a pair of runs.

Winning pitcher Kailynn Getz allowed five hits and no earned runs in five innings. Getz, who struck out four, also helped her own cause with a hit and a pair of runs.

The Bears are now 9-8.

Weatherly-Panther Vy.

Morgan O’Brien’s three-run homer helped Panther Valley gain a 6-4 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Panthers held a 2-1 lead until they scored four times in the home fifth, with three of them scoring on O’Brien’s blast.

Those runs proved to be important as the Wreckers tallied once in the sixth and twice in the seventh.

O’Brien finished with two hits - as did Mikayla Yuricheck, who added a run and two stolen bases. Kaidence Krapf also chipped in with a hit and two runs.

Winning pitcher Brenna Beshock struck out nine.

Weatherly’s Juliette Bartel finished with a hit and two RBIs, while Adrianna Dotzel also collected two hits.

Losing hurler Madisyn vonFrisch registered 16 strikeouts.

Panther Valley is now 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the league, and Weatherly drops to 4-9 and 1-8.

Lourdes-Tamaqua

Tamaqua edged Lourdes for a 5-4 Schuylkill League win.

Hailey Williams (walk, run scored, RBI), Addison Krall (run scored), Leah Crowley (two runs scored) and Kolbe Robb all had singles for the Blue Raiders.

Kaziah Streisel had two RBIs, and Breanna Thomas (walk) added the other RBI.

In the circle, Bryn Clifford struck out 11 and allowed just one walk and five hits in seven innings of work to earn the win.

The win upped Tamaqua’s record to 6-10 overall and 5-6 in the league.

North Schuylkill

Morgan Dinger pitched a one-hit shutout to lead North Schuylkill to an 11-0 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Dinger allowed just a first-inning single to Carson Rosenberger. She only walked one and struck out nine.

Ava Correll had two hits and knocked in three runs, while Hailey Weikel drilled a two-run homer. Abby Kuzio also finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

The Spartans improved to 11-3, with Thorpe dropping to 4-12.

Lehighton-Blue Mtn.

Anna Laughlin and Marla Freiwald hit back-to-back homers in the second inning to power Blue Mountain to a 10-2 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

The Eagles finished with 14 hits, including three from Laughlin and Elle Walasavage.

Eryn Mertz had two hits and scored a run for the Indians, while Alyssa Myers added a pair of hits.

Lehighton fell to 6-9 overall and 3-7 in the league, with Blue Mountain improving to 15-2 and 9-2.
