Event supports co-worker’s cancer battle
On Sunday Sheryl Still was shocked at the number of friends and community members who came out to the benefit to support her. She is fighting her second bout of breast cancer.
Emily Smiley, who works with Still at the Brodheadsville Holiday Hair Salon said, “We think of each other as family, so I decided to talk with my co-workers at Holiday Hair about having a fundraiser to help cover the cost of treatments and also medical expenses. All proceeds will go directly to Still.
“I can’t believe how many basket donations and how many baked goods people dropped off to sell at the food table,” Still said.
The fundraiser also had several stylists who gave their time to cut hair from 3 to 7 p.m. so they could raise as much money as possible.
“I can’t express how humble I am that people in the community did this for me. I will never forget what my co-workers organized for me. Saying thank you to all of you really cannot express how grateful I am,” Still said.
“We had a total of 143 donations,” Smiley said. They raised $8,181 through the raffle, haircuts, food sales, baked sale and other donations.
