Scholarships available for 2022 for nursing and higher education

Applications for nursing, higher education and music scholarships for graduating students meeting certain requirements are available from Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton.

The William C. and Loretta K. Shirar Memorial Scholarship for Nursing was established for the purpose of awarding scholarships to high school seniors or older individuals pursuing a career as a registered nurse. First consideration is to be given to any person pursuing a baccalaureate degree, followed by associate degree or diploma program. Should there be no candidate from Trinity Lutheran Church, any applicant from Lehighton Area School District will be considered.

The Jean D. and Robert A. Benner Nursing Scholarship was established for the purpose of awarding a scholarship to a high school senior or older person pursuing a career as a registered nurse. First consideration is to be given to any person pursuing a baccalaureate degree, followed by associate degree or diploma program. Any applicant from a school district in Carbon County will be considered.

The Thomas L. Reisenweaver Memorial Higher Education Scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in music or a finance-related field. If no applicants in these fields, then preference will be given to a member of Trinity in any course of study.

The Marian A. Ashner Memorial Scholarship in Education awards up to two scholarships to Lehighton area students majoring in education enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university. Scholarship recipients can reapply in subsequent years for consideration for additional scholarship grants.

The Mark Krieger Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a person or persons pursuing a degree or diploma from an accredited school of higher learning. If there is no applicant from Trinity, consideration is given to a student from the Lehighton Area School District.

The Trinity Higher Education Scholarship and Mark Krieger Memorial Scholarship were established to provide help to people pursuing a degree or diploma from an accredited school of higher learning. Should there be no candidate from Trinity, an applicant from Lehighton Area School District will be considered.
