The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice today announced the United States has sued four companies to recover EPA’s cleanup costs at the Palmerton Zinc Superfund Site.
The complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Harrisburg alleged the companies contributed to the hazardous waste contamination at the Carbon County site, which covers more than 2,000 acres.
Named defendants are Horsehead Industries, Horsehead Resource Development Company, Viacom International and TCI Pacific Communications.
The government is seeking $12 million in past cleanup costs.
