DUI charges
State police have released the following information about driving under the influence cases:
• Teresia Gitau, 30, of Whitehall, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance after an incident on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
State police at the Pocono barracks said Gitau was operating a vehicle that changed lanes when it struck a car driven by the 53-year-old Lansford woman in North Whitehall Township.
Police said it was determined Gitau was not able to safely operated a vehicle. Police said she refused to submit to a blood or breath test.
In addition to the DUI charges, she is facing traffic violations and charges of driving with an expired registration and inspection and failure to maintain insurance, police said.
• A 50-year-old Long Pond man was charged by Stroudsburg state police after a traffic stop they made at 9:36 p.m. April in Stroudsburg.
Police said the man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was stopped in a 2020 Ram truck for motor vehicle code violations.
• State police at Hazleton said troopers were dispatched March 18 at 11:51 a.m. along the Cando Highway in Hazle Township, Luzerne County, for a report of a unresponsive woman in a vehicle. Troopers found Shauna Weber, 28, of Ashland. It was determined that she was operating a 1996 Toyota Camry under the influence of a controlled substance.
• State police at Hamburg said Benjamin J. Hunter, 40, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette eastbound on Cabela Drive in Tilden Township, Berks County at 9:31 p.m. on April 8 and approaching a yield sign at the intersection with Route 61. At the same time Alan R. Woomert, 48, of Auburn, driving a 2017 Ford Focus, was traveling southbound on Cabela Drive in the right lane. Troopers said Hunter pulled out from Cabela Drive onto 61 south and directly in the path of Woomert. Woomert attempted to avoid a collision and swerved to the left but could not and the two vehicle collided.
No one was injured. Troopers indicated that Hunter would be charged with DUI.
• A 33-year-old man from Sciota is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a stop made by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks.
Police said they stopped him for traffic violations while driving a 1999 Chrysler Sebring.
