The Rev. Dr. John D. Newpher, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Slatington, for the past 10 years, was honored at a retirement testimonial dinner held yesterday in the church fellowship hall.

Rev. Newpher announced his retirement earlier this year and said he and his wife, Suzanne, will be residing in Ambler.

Dr. Andrew White, a professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, was the guest speaker for the program.

The congregation presented the departing pastor many gifts, including a set of luggage for his travel plans in retirement, and walking sticks for him and his wife.
