Prothonotary report

Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released the statistical report of activities for her office for the months of February and March 2022.

There were 204 cases started in February with the following breakdown: civil actions, 23; custody, 7; DJ appeal, 8; divorce, 17; ejectment, 1; license appeal, 3; declaratory judgment, 0; mortgage foreclosures, 2; protection from abuse, 23; judgments, 91; Stip/waiv liens, 2; quiet title, 7; custody modifications, 9; and writs, 7; miscellaneous, 2; zoning appeal, 1; name change, 1; aud/fin/reports, 1; and tax sale, 1.

A total of 25 passport applications were processed in February. In addition, a total of 7 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 33 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $24,520.46; prothonotary fees, $19,040.07; custody/divorce fees, $1,662.10; data processing fees, $2,482.50; interest income, $98.29; PFA surcharge sheriff, $150; PFA surcharge courts, $150; and stenographer fess, $1,027.50.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $2,400, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $3,954.66; and automation fund $590.50 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office. Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $28.05.

For the month of March:

There were 289 cases started in March with the following breakdown: civil actions, 17; custody, 15; DJ appeal, 8; divorce, 14; partition, 1; license appeal, 5; mortgage foreclosures, 7; protection from abuse, 21; judgments, 171; Stip/waiv liens, 2; partition, 1; custody modifications, 13; writs, 11; em domdec/tak, 1; PFSI, 2; and aud/fin/reports, 1.

A total of 59 passport applications were processed in March. In addition, a total of 27 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 51 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $25,112.32; prothonotary fees, $21,572.55; custody/divorce fees, $418.75; data processing fees, $2,632.70; interest income, $3.32; PFA surcharge sheriff, $75; PFA surcharge courts, $75; and stenographer fess, $335.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $1,500, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $3,427.10; and automation fund $595 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office. Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $43.35.

Credit defaults

The following actions were filed by credit card companies, or their collection agencies, for alleged defaults on credit card/loan accounts.

Discover Bank, New Albany, Ohio, filed the following actions: Lenward H. Burwell, 41 Sycamore Circle, Albrightsville, seeking $23,994.97; and William E. Brobst, 2365 Fairyland Road, Lehighton, seeking $1,095.84

Portfolio Recovery Associates, Norfolk, Virginia, filed an action against Vincent and Merissa Rash, 308 Bridge St., Lehighton, seeking $879.86

LVNV Funding, Canonsburg, filed the following actions: Francis Lockwood, 436 E. Kline Ave., Lansford, seeking $2,369.28; Harold Tate, 124 Sycamore Circle, Albrightsville, seeking $1,427.50; and Harold Anderson, 430 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, seeking $1,258.13

Citibank, Fort Washington, filed the following actions: Robert V. Macalush, 950 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, seeking $1,068.72; and Jared T. Frye, 436 Wallace Way, Weatherly, seeking $2,148.75

Midland Credit Management Inc., Horsham, filed the following actions: Felicia M. Leonardi, 528 Mountain Road, Albrightsville, seeking $1,261.92; and Michael D. Buss, 500 Drift Road, Palmerton, seeking $5,901.30.

Crown Asset Management LLC, Duluth, Georgia, filed an action against Darlene M. Linares, 24 Redwood Drive, Albrightsville, seeking $1,644.95.

Mortgage foreclosures

The following actions were filed as mortgage foreclosures for alleged defaults on loans.

The Money Source Inc., c/o 3138 E. Elwood St., Phoenix, Arizona, filed an action against Brian Ptashinski and Sandra Banks, both of 32 Winter Green Lane, Jim Thorpe, over property at that address. Sought is $156,671.46 and continuing interest.

First Northern Bank & Trust Company, c/o Fourth St. and Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, filed an action against Denise L. Gross, 500 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. over property at that address. Sought is $94,976.76 and continuing interest.

First Northern Bank & Trust Company filed an action against Matthew C. Merkel, 602 Mauch Chunk Road, Palmerton, over property at that address. Sought is $12,536.87 and continuing interest.

Contract default

Truist Bank, 4251 Fayetteville Road, Lumberton, North Carolina, filed an action against Lorrie Gennaro, 510 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, alleging she defaulted on a credit agreement.

Sought is $20,587.36 plus interest, costs and fees.

Retail agreements
