Former Tamaqua standout Casey Rother, and former Northwestern star Rafe Perich, are both enjoying another stellar seasons with the Lehigh University baseball team.
Rother, a senior, was 4-for-6 in Saturday’s 13-12 Patriot League win over Navy.
Rother finished a triple shy of the cycle with a single, double and homer in the win, and his four hits marked a season-high.
He also tossed a season-high four innings in the win, recording three strikeouts while allowing just one hit.
Rother went a combined 3-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored in the conclusion of Saturday’s nightcap and Game 3, which were played on Sunday.
Rother - who has started all 36 Lehigh games this season - has 49 hits and 14 doubles on the season to lead the Mountain Hawks, while his 27 RBIs rank second. His .338 batting average is third on the team; his 26 runs scored and three home runs are tied for third; and his .887 OPS ranks fifth.
Rother became the fourth Mountain Hawk - and first since Mike Garzillo in 2016 - to be named Patriot League Player of the Year last season.
Rafe Perich has also made an impact in 21 games started for Lehigh this spring. Perich’s .329 batting average is fourth on the team. His .421 on-base percentage and 12 walks is fifth; his 27 hits, .463 slugging percentage and .884 OPS rank sixth; and his 15 runs scored and 14 RBIs are seventh.
Perich had a season-high three hits on March 26 against Lafayette. He had three RBIs March 19 against St. Bonaventure, and three runs scored March 16 against Saint Peter’s.
Lehigh is 18-18 overall, and 6-9 in the Patriot League.
