Crews begin controlled burn in Rush Twp.

Pennsylvania Game Commission crews began a controlled burn Thursday at state game lands in Rush Township.

The site is part of State Game Lands 227 and lies off Tuscarora Park Road between Barnesville and Tamaqua. The commission’s proposed plan encompasses three parcels containing 71 acres.

Signs advising motorists of the burn were posted along Tuscarora Park Road.

Controlled burns improve the health and resilience of forests, grasslands and shrub lands, and help maintain wildlife habitats, according to information from the commission.
