Chestnuthill Township officials discuss development’s flooding
Chestnuthill Township officials met with homeowners from Country Terrace off Route 715 to discuss solutions for flooding in their development.
Chris McDermott, the township engineer, thanked everyone for coming out to the meeting and said when the group met in October, “We reviewed really what was going on in the neighborhood and listened to a lot of your comments.”
McDermott introduced Matt Evans, who works with him at Riley Associates.
After the first meeting McDermott said he and Evans went to Country Terrace to look at what is going on.
“We walked the neighborhood and have developed some strategies and we are reviewing them internally. Next we identified a strategy that we thought was worthwhile to pursue for curing some of the issues,” McDermott said.
He said he talked to the supervisors, but stressed to the homeowners the next steps were really up to the homeowners, because this has to really be a community effort.
“I mean, the township can’t do it alone, it’s really going to take cooperation among the residents because we will be working in your neighborhoods,” McDermott said.
The project will be done in three phases and the first stage starts at the bottom of the development and works up.
McDermott said this week’s meeting was to bring the homeowners up to date and let them know the ideas for taking care of some the water problems.
A video showed the flooding on property owners’ lots whenever there is more than 2 inches of rain. The residents identified their property and the damage that is done by heavy rainstorms.
Chairman Chuck Gould said the actual timeline of starting the project could be two or more years.
The supervisors made it clear that the new emergency center will be built before the project in Country Terrace.
“What is going to happen here now instead of inviting everyone in the development the Phase One residents will be invited to the next meeting, but it doesn’t mean if you are not in the phase you can’t come. Everyone is welcomed,” he said.
A date has not been set for the Phase One meeting.
