Marian and Tamaqua gained splits in track and field action on Wednesday, while Jim Thorpe was swept by Blue Mountain in a key league matchup.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain narrowly swept Jim Thorpe in an important Schuylkill League matchup.

The Eagles took the girls meet by an 83-67 score, while the Blue Mountain boys edged the Olympians 76-74.

Thorpe’s Kaila O’Connor won three events (100, 200, 400) but the Eagles gained a 27-0 advantage in the throws to help claim the team win.

In the boys meet, David Richards (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, high jump) was a triple winner for the Olympians while Ryan Bailor took two events (800, 1600). Blue Mountain, however, outpointed Thorpe 45-18 in the field events to pull-out the two-point victory.

The Blue Raider boys posted a 97-53 victory, while the Crimson Tide girls managed an 82-68 win.

Adam Linkhorst earned a pair of firsts (long jump, triple jump) to lead Tamaqua’s 50-13 advantage in the field events.

The Blue Raiders received individual wins from seven different athletes in the girls meet, but Pottsville gained multiple firsts from Macy Matlock, Adra Schell and Taleah Ruben.
