The Pennsylvania State Police investigated 449 vehicle crashes which resulted in more than 100 injured travelers and four deaths during the Easter holiday weekend.
Police said alcohol was a factor in 10 percent of the crashes, including one fatal accident, and resulted in 341 driving under the influence arrests. Troopers also arrested 255 people on criminal charges and issued 13,490 traffic citations.
Police said statistical information was not collected in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and mitigation efforts that were in place throughout the state.
By comparison, here is the statistical data of police activity from 2022 compared to 2019:
Total crashes - 449 in 2022 and 540 in 2019; fatal crashes - 4 in 2022 and 1 in 2019; people killed - 4 in 2022 and 2 in 2019; people injured - 101 in 2022 and 129 in 2019; alcohol-related crashes - 47 in 2022 and 38 in 2019; and alcohol-related fatal crashes - 1 in 2022 and 0 in 2019.
DUI arrests - 341 in 2022 and 396 in 2019; speeding citations, 4,784 in 2022 and 5,847 in 2019; child seat citations - 57 in 2022 and 76 in 2019; seat belt citations - 415 in 2022 and 511 in 2019; and other citations, 8,234 in 2022 and 9,043 in 2019.
