Spotlight: Nesquehoning man uses artistic talent to create his ‘IT’ car

t’s a car that inspires nightmares.

No, it’s not Christine, the 1958 Plymouth Fury from the classic horror novel and movie by the same name.

It’s a creation that can be seen driving the streets of the Panther Valley, complete with teeth, images of one of the scariest clowns to ever come alive on the big screen and an ability to catch pretty much everyone’s attention.

The 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, decked out in the Stephen King’s horror classic “IT,” is owned by Brian Quinn of the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning.

“I don’t like to be like anybody else,” Quinn said of his horror movie themed ride. “This car shows that I am a unique kind of person. I don’t fit in with the crowds. I don’t like the publicity, but I like people to appreciate art and what better way to do it?

“You put this on a vehicle and people are turning their heads. It’s your own expression.”

The father of five showed off his vehicle, which he designed and created himself. Both interior and exterior carries the IT theme, complete with quotes on the dashboard and Pennywise imagery on both of the doors, inside and out.

“I’ve been drawing since I was 5,” Quinn said, noting that he has never gone to school for art, but just has the talent to draw.

The idea for the Pennywise car began two years ago as a Halloween gag, when Quinn installed the teeth in the front grill of the vehicle.

“I sat and looked at it for a while and it just popped in my head what I had to do,” he said.

That gag led to him into turning the headlights into the lines for the clown’s eyes and the idea took off from there.

Quinn, who is originally from Lehighton and has lived in Palmerton and Nesquehoning over the years, said he may update it again for this Halloween with new “IT” graphics, or is thinking about possibly buying another vehicle to design with the horror characters from “The Conjuring.”

So what does the community think of his vehicle?

Quinn said it has been a conversation starter and is well-received by children.

“They love it,” he said. “I have more kids loving this car than I do adults.”

Anyone who wants photos with the vehicle is also welcome to do so whenever they see him.

“I drive it all over the place just so people could take pictures,” he said, noting that he plans to be in the Lansford area in the next few weeks so anyone interested in seeing it could do so.

Quinn’s goal now is simple. He wants to promote art in the community and bring inspiration to those interested in art.
