Presentation to discuss history of Glen Onoko

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will sponsor a talk and visual presentation on the history of Glen Onoko by local author and historian Vince Hydro.

The presentation, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday at the society’s museum, will include well over 100 slides on the history of Glen Onoko and will touch on topics such as: The history of the area as a tourist attraction, the Wahnetah Hotel, the abandoned village of Hetcheltooth, Packer’s Point Lookout, and the abandoned railroad tunnel.

The presentation will also include a photographic tour of the ravine during Victorian Times.

In addition to Monday’s event, Hydro will also complete the same presentation at 1 p.m. on April 23.

The museum is located at 157 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning. There is ample parking available in the large lot located next to the museum.

This event is open to the public free of charge, although donations to the historical society are always welcome.

The Hotel Wahnetah, a four-story attraction, once stood at the entrance to Glen Onoko in Jim Thorpe. CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS
