Carbon County court

A Palmerton woman was sentenced to a county prison term on a drug count and also resentenced in other cases.

Leanna M. Altemose, 35, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic to serve one to one day less 24 months on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. She previously pleaded to the charge which was filed by state police at Lehighton for an incident on June 27, 2020.

Prior to the sentence being imposed Altemose also had a probation/parole violation proceeding on petitions filed by the adult probation office in other cases which included two more drug counts along with two theft counts.

Nanovic resentenced her on those cases to serve a total of six to 12 months with all terms running concurrently.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample and make total restitution of $668.60.

Altemose entered pleas in the violation cases part of the county’s drug treatment program. However, she was terminated from the program when she stopped following the rules and went back using drugs.

Altemose, currently an inmate in the county prison, was given total credit of 120 days on the charges.

DUI case

Antonio Cespedes, 20, of Allentown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year on a DUI of controlled substance charge.

He arrested on Jan. 2, 2021, by state police at Lehighton.

He began serving the jail term at noon on April 9.

Both defendants must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
