Worker charged with stealing over $160K

A Lehigh County man has been charged with stealing a large amount of cash from his employer over a four-year span. It is one of three incidents investigated by state police at Bethlehem.

Troopers said they were dispatched to the True Value Hardware store along Route 873, in North Whitehall Township, to investigate a monetary discrepancy in the financial records of the store, which was discovered when an audit was performed.

It was determined that Damian Vansuch, 51, of Lower Macungie Township, was the store manager at the time and stole cash from store bank deposits that occurred from December 2015 through January 2019. The total amount taken was $163,223.41.

Vansuch was charged with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before a district judge and released on $20,000 unsecured bail.

Troopers are also investigating a theft of funds from a church. On Feb. 15 at 1:21 p.m. a female representing St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Slatington, appeared at the barracks and reported that someone had cashed a check belonging to the church in the amount of $13,927.15 apparently without permission. The investigation is continuing.
