– Jim Thorpe breaks a 3-3 tie with four runs in the fourth inning to defeat host Schuylkill Haven in a non-league game on the loser’s diamond. The deciding frame sees the Olympians load the bases when Brian Rehrig reaches on an error, Greg Flyte walks and Joe Kehrli singles. The winners take the lead on a wild pitch, followed by a free pass to Joe Butchko, and go ahead 5-3 on Mike Kmetz’s fielder’s choice. They add two more runs on a squeeze bunt by Lee Marzen, which scores Kehrli, while Kmetz also comes around to score on the play.
