Local Roundup: Results from March 29

Northwestern’s softball and boys lacrosse teams rolled to wins on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Northern Lehigh earned a victory in softball action, while Palmerton’s tennis team also posted a win.

SOFTBALL

Northwestern-Bangor

Northwestern slugged six home runs, two by Sage Toman, to power the Tigers to an 18-7 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Toman drilled a solo homer in the second and added a three-run shot during a 13-run third inning.

Rylee McGinley also went deep in the second, while Isabelle Akelaitis connected for a two-run blast in third. Isabella Teprovich added a solo homer in the big third frame.

Toman ended the contest with four hits, three runs and five RBIs. Teprovich finished with two hits and knocked in four.

The win upped Northwestern’s record to 2-0, while Bangor dropped to 0-1.

No. Lehigh-Salisbury

A 10-run third inning lifted Northern Lehigh to a big 12-1 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Seven different Bulldogs collected an RBI during the third frame, with Haylie Fenstermaker leading the way with a two-run triple. Arabella Heintzelman also had a two-run single in the inning.

Grace Bauer added an RBI double, while Hayley Thoder, Cadence Peter, Kaitlyn Stock and Skyeler Horack all chipped in with run-scoring singles. Emma Smith also knocked in a run with a fielder’s choice.

Fenstermaker and Thoder both ended with two hits and a pair of runs, while Jordyn Hemingway and Peyton Hoffman each scored twice. Heintzelman finished with three RBIs.

Kendall Heiney kept Salisbury’s bats in check, allowing just four hits while striking out six.

BASEBALL

No. Lehigh-Salisbury

Salisbury jumped out to a fast start and cruised to a 12-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Hunter Rothrock finished with four hits and an RBI for the Falcons, who plated five runs in the first inning. Among Rothrock’s hits were two doubles. Paul Spann also had two hits, one a homer, and drove in four.

The Bulldogs avoided a shutout when Jack Tosh’s fielder’s choice plated Cole Hausman in the fourth frame. Nolehi added another run in the fifth on Brendan Hill-Geake’s steal of home.

Salisbury improved to 1-0, while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.

TENNIS

Lehighton-Palmerton

Palmerton edged Lehighton by a 3-2 score in a non-league match.

Riley Fallon and Tyler Shollenberger both posted straight-set singles wins to lead the Blue Bombers (1-2). The winners also received a key doubles victory from Ethan Jones and Logan Connelly.

For the Indians, who dropped to 1-2, Aaron Miller won at No. 1 singles.

BOYS LACROSSE

N’western-Saucon Vy.

Cade Christopher had four goals and added two assists to help lead Northwestern to a 14-2 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Andrew Sabo aided the Tigers cause with three goals and three assists, while Austin Sosnovik and Blaine Snyder both finished with three goals and an assist.

The winners, who improved to 2-0, also received a goal from Devon Hildebrand and an assist from Stone Sosnovik.

Northwestern keeper Bailen Smargiassi made six saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Easton-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley dropped a narrow 11-9 decision to powerful Easton in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup.

Brielle McInaw scored five goals and added two assists for the Bears, who battled back from a 6-2 halftime but came up short.

Alexandra Bush finished with two goals and a pair of assists for PV (0-2), while Devon Bush and Madison Fava both chipped in with a goal. Riley Green also had an assist.

Reese Krieger paced the winners with four goals.

Saucon Vy.-N’western

Saucon Valley rallied for a 9-5 victory over Northwestern in Colonial League action.

Sophie Engelhardt tallied four goals and an assist for the Panthers (1-1).

Freshman Olivia Costa had three goals in the first half for the Tigers (1-1), who led 5-3. Lexi Vennera had four draw controls, and five groundballs for Northwestern, while Claire Costa had five groundballs.
