Local Roundup: Results from March 26

Lehighton and Marian both posted wins in baseball and softball on Saturday.

The Indians swept Northern Lehigh, while the Colts and Fillies defeated Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

Other winners included Panther Valley and Pleasant Valley in baseball action.

BASEBALL

Northern Lehigh-Lehighton

Lehighton used a pair of four-run innings to help cruise to a 12-2 nonleague victory over Northern Lehigh.

The Indians, who have won two straight games to start the season, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and doubled their advantage to 8-0 in the third.

Dawson Kesier had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs to lead Lehighton’s offense. Adam Bastone added a hit, three runs and two RBIs, while Austin Greene contributed a hit, two walks, two runs and an RBI.

Lehighton also received a hit, run and RBI from both Ian Rarick and Talan Sensinger.

Brady O’Donnell pitched four hitless innings and struck out seven to earn the win.

For the Bulldogs, who dropped to 0-2, James Mann and Josh Kistler both had a hit and scored a run.

CMVT-Marian

Marian rolled to a 15-1 nonleague victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

Nine different Colts collected hits, including Chase Petrilyak, who finished with a single, double, triple, three runs and an RBI.

Brian Hinkle also had a big day at the plate, finishing with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs. Mason Gibson added a pair of hits, one a double, and scored three times, while Jake Bobish and Michael Gelatko each had a hit and knocked in a pair of runs. Matt Martin also hit a solo homer.

Bobish gained the win, tossing five innings and striking out eight.

Panther Valley-Minersville

Panther Valley had no trouble with Minersville in the opening round of the Rothermel Tournament, blasting the Miners by a 19-1 score.

The Panthers will face Shenandoah Valley, a 10-8 winner over North Schuylkill in the other semifinal game, in Saturday’s championship game.

Stephen Hood paced PV offensively with three hits, including a double and homer. Hood also finished with three RBIs.

The winners, who broke open a close contest with five runs in the fourth inning, also received two hits from Michael Pascoe, Brad Hood, Drew Kokinda and Matt Engler. Pascoe also had three runs, while Brad Hood and Kokinda both knocked in two runs.

Brad Hood picked up the win, tossing four scoreless innings and striking out six.

Pleasant Valley-Blue Mtn.

Pleasant Valley rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to gain an 8-7 nonleague comeback victory over Blue Mountain.

Trailing 7-5, the Bears received two-out RBI hits from Nate Loch, Dominic Payan and Andrew Meitzler to take the lead.

Ben Mostosky then retired the Eagles in order in the home seventh to nail down the win.

Loch finished with two hits and three runs, while Payan contributed a pair of hits and two runs. Meitzler ended with two hits and knocked in two runs. The Bears (1-0) also received two hits and a run from both Ryan Kymer and Austin Ratti.

Freedom-Northwestern

Freedom pitcher Griffen Coyne pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits, to lead the Patriots to a 4-1 nonleague victory over Northwestern.

Dylan Witkowski collected three hits for the Tigers and scored his team’s only run in the fifth inning. Ben Boyer chipped in with a pair of hits.

The winners also received a hit and two RBIs from Andres Suarez.

The loss dropped Northwestern to 1-1.

SOFTBALL

Northern Lehigh-Lehighton

Lehighton pounded out 16 hits en route to a 12-5 nonleague victory over Northern Lehigh in its season opener.

Maggie Pagotto and Addison Chavanic both collected three hits to lead the Indians attack. Pagotto had two doubles and knocked in a pair of runs, while Chavanic had a triple and two RBIs.

The winners, who took the lead with a five-run third inning, also received two hits from Eryn Mertz, Abbie Miller, Mallory Valentine and Amy Dwojewski. Mertz knocked in three runs, while Miller scored twice.

The Bulldogs’ Skylar Horack finished with three hits and a run scored. Jordyn Hemingway also added a triple and two RBIs.

Lehighton is now 1-0, while Nolehi dropped to 0-2.

CMVT-Marian

Marian rallied from an early 10-run deficit and eventually gained a high-scoring 21-18 nonleague victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

The Rams exploded for 10 runs in the first inning, but the Fillies (1-0) came back to tie the game at 14-14 in the third. A three-run fifth, and a four-run sixth proved to be the difference for Marian.

The Fillies’ Jackie Guth had three hits, three runs and three RBIs, while Alise Heisey added three hits - one a triple - two runs and knocked in three.

Also contributing to the win were Rhiannon Brady (three hits, three runs, two RBIs) and Gracie Gallagher (two hits).
