Lenten services

Effort UMC continues its Lenten services, a study which will be taught on video by District Superintendent Steven C. Morton, joined by Elders from the North District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. Worship in the sanctuary begins the evening at 7 p.m., which is then followed by discussion.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, invites the community to participate in its Sunday worship services at 10 a.m. and the special Lenten evening Bible study at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, based on the theme: I AM.

The Rev. Zabdiel Khan, St. Peter’s pastor, will lead the study. Tonight’s topic will be based on: I AM the good shepherd (John 10:11).

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will have a Stations of the Cross service at 7:30 p.m. today.

Seniors menus

Attendees at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, hosted in Zion Lutheran’s Church Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville, can order veggie egg scramble for Friday’s lunch and barbecue pulled pork for next Wednesday.

Orders must be placed by 11 a.m. one day in advance by calling site manager Donna Riedel at 570-242-6770.

Easter flowers

Effort UMC is accepting orders for Easter flowers to beautify the church through Thursday. Available this year are lilies, tulips and/or daffodils. For costs and other information, call the church office, email the church at eumc103@ptd.net or fill out a form found on the Welcome Center. Flowers can be picked up after the 11 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, is also accepting orders for Easter flowers, through April 3. For details, call the church at 570-629-4309.

The church will be celebrating its 150th anniversary on June 18 and 19. Anyone who has pictures or other memorabilia from years at St. John’s is asked to contact the church at the above number so items can be accepted before May 1.

On June 18 at 12:30 p.m. there will be a celebration with food and music, held at the Pavilion behind St. John’s, which is owned by the neighboring Effort UMC church.

On June 19 the 9:30 a.m. service will be led by Bishop Christopher deForest. There will be a time of fellowship after the service.

Shared memorabilia may be picked up/returned after the service on June 19.

Painted rock hunt

Lucky Leprechaun is to be at it again as the West End Park and Open Space Commission sponsors this year’s March hunt & selfie submission, which entails finding three special painted rocks through March 31, with a follow-up email to be sent with pictures of them at any of the three WEPOSC locations.

They are Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville; Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg; and West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road.

Fish dinner held

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be the site for the Lenten fish fry dinner being held in McCawley Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

It is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus #7141 and benefits the K of C scholarship fund. For more information, including cost, call the church at 610-681-6137.

Bingo night

It’s that time again, the S.A.L. bingo night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert is open to the community.

Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. and paying at 7.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s SFRC food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Park cleanup

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is holding a park cleanup at the West End Regional Park at 578 Evergreen Hollow Road in Brodheadsville on Saturday.

Children ages 11 to 13 must be accompanied by an adult per child. Ages 14 and older can help by themselves.

The park leadership states it is a great conservation activity.

Fantastic fundraiser

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church Kids have the hopes of raising $6,000 for Missions through BGMC (Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge) for the month of March for March Madness.

As of Monday they have raised $4,931.

Mini-THON fundraiser

Gress Hall at the Pleasant Valley High School will be the site of a mini-THON fundraiser, a Pizza and Paint event, from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets will be sold at the door and only cash payments will be received. All proceeds will go to the Mini THON fundraiser.

The fundraiser includes the painting event, pizza, soft drinks and dessert.

PVHS’ art teacher, Mrs. E. Negron, will be the guest artist leading the spring painting event.

It is asked to not bring nonpaying guests and children in light of the nature of the event.
