Carbon County court — DUI

A Lehigh County man was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday after pleading guilty to a driving under the influence charge and also driving while under suspension - DUI related.

He was one of six defendants in pending DUI cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Vehicle stop

Corey Allen White, 34, of Slatedale, was arrested by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Lehighton, following a vehicle stop.

He was charged with DUI of a controlled substance.

White, who is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison, was sentenced to serve 12 to 60 months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, license suspended for 18 months, render 100 hours of community service when paroled and supply a DNA sample.

On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail and pay a fine of $1,000.

The jail terms run concurrently.

Other pleas

Brett Allen Mackes, 22, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 24, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Mahoning Township for DUI of a controlled substance.

He also pleaded to one count of criminal mischief for an incident on May 26, 2021, filed by Lehighton police.

Officers responded to a residence in the borough and found Mackes had damaged a television and home computer.

On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

On the mischief count he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge, and ordered to render an additional 50 hours of community service.

He will begin serving the prison term at 6 p.m. on March 25.

Craig Joseph Daniels, 55, of Shickshinny, Luzerne County, was arrested on Feb. 20, 2021, by state police at Fern Ridge in Kidder Township.

He also pleaded to one count of driving under suspension.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for the house arrest program.

Cheffie Melhem, 48, of Easton, was arrested on Aug. 29, 2019, by Lehighton police at a vehicle stop. A test revealed a 0.131 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Allen Scott Bauder, 37, of Andreas, was arrested on Jan. 13, 2021, by state police at Lehighton along Fritz Valley Road in Mahoning Township.

In exchange for the plea, a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, were dropped.

He was originally charged with 11 counts.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Martin Jacob Miller, 56, of Pennsburg, Montgomery County, was arrested on July 2, 2017, by Lehighton police along Route 443 following a vehicle stop.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

All defendants sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee if on parole or probation.
