State police at Frackville report on area crashes

State police at Frackville reported the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:59 a.m. on March 14 along Route 61 in New Castle Township. Troopers said Mitchell H. Fontaine, 30, of Pottsville, was driving a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner northbound and attempted to pass another vehicle in a sharp curve. His vehicle went onto the west berm causing him to lose control in the snow. The vehicle struck guide rail with the left front, traveled through the northbound travel lanes, coming to rest along the east berm.

Fontaine sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley East Hospital, Pottsville. The vehicle had to be towed.

Fontaine was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 12:12 a.m. on March 13 along Hillside Road in Kline Township. Troopers said John R. Miller, 27, of McAdoo, was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra northbound, near the intersection with Grove Street, when the vehicle began experiencing mechanical issues, caused by the braking system. Miller lost control while going downhill due to a brake problem and crashed into an embankment along the berm, in a wooded area.

Miller was not injured and the vehicle was towed.

Miller was cited for driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

• Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:21 a.m. on March 6 along Route 924 in East Union Township. Troopers said Marianne Arellano, 50, of Girardville, was driving a 2008 Nissan X-Terra southbound and negotiating a right curve in the road when the left front tire came off. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a utility pole where it came to rest.

Arellano and two children, a boy, 10, and a girl, 4, sustained suspected minor injuries and were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus. Another passenger, Ethan T. Coulson, 20, of Girardville, was not injured.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported on March 5 at 9:40 p.m. along North Cleveland Street in McAdoo. Troopers said the left front of a parked 2013 Lexus RX450 was struck by another vehicle whose driver fled the scene.
