Two killed in crash in Tobyhanna during storm Saturday

Two young people were killed in crash on Route 611 in Monroe County during a thunderstorm Saturday night.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said a Hyundai sedan was being driven by an 18-year-old male from Tobyhanna on Route 611 at Main Street in Tobyhanna when the car crossed the centerline at 6:52 p.m. and was struck by a 2022 International tractor trailer.

Three juvenile passengers, all from Tobyhanna, were in the car.

The impact tore the car in half, ejecting one of the rear passengers.

Police said the two rear passengers were deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car and front seat passenger were transported to CMC Geisinger and Lehigh Valley Hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 56-year-old from Collegeville, was not injured.’

Police are conducting reconstruction and continue to investigate.
