Rush supervisors award construction bids
Rush Township supervisors awarded bids for the construction of two new shell buildings near the municipal offices at 104 Mahanoy Ave. in Hometown.
They also approved a paving project and improvements to two township parks during Thursday’s monthly meeting.
As for the buildings, one will be used for municipal services, such as storing equipment and vehicles. It will be located west of the township shed on Mahanoy Avenue, which is Route 54.
The other will house sanitary sewer services, and will be built next to the township police station.
Dutchman Contracting of Reinholds was the low bidder for both buildings. The municipal services building comes with a $156,221 price tag, while the sewer building will cost $79,404.
Supervisor Robert Leibensperger said township sewer employees currently use a building behind the Hometown Volunteer Fire Co. to repair sewer equipment. Once the new building is constructed, the township will sell the 43 Chestnut St. property, he said.
Six bids were received for a paving project on Ryan Avenue. The board awarded the project to Lehigh Asphalt, which came in the lowest with a $185,829 bid. The highest bid was $331,972.
Leibensperger called the project a “complete renovation” that will tackle Ryan Avenue from Center Street to Tamaqua Street.
Supervisors also talked recreation, with Miller Park in Hometown and Grier City Park in Grier City slated to receive new pavilions this year. For the work, the board awarded a $88,932 bid to Spotts Brothers Inc. of Schuylkill Haven.
A new swing set, slide and other playground equipment will be added to the Grier City park. The project’s scope also includes a revamped parking lot and new trails. Spotts Brothers submitted the low bid of $86,779.
The majority of the work at the playgrounds will be covered by a $120,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Resources.
In an unrelated matter, the board changed its April meeting from April 21 to 7 p.m. April 12.
