Tamaqua Police have charged Kenneth William Klotz, 18, of West Cottage Avenue, Tamaqua, with firearms not to be carried without a license, corruption of minors, recklessly endangering another person and persistent disorderly conduct for incident on Feb. 25.
Police said at 3 p.m. West Penn police reported a citizen complaint of a juvenile with a gun in the area of Fegley’s Mini Mart on Center Street.
While officers responded, a third officer, in the police station, observed on the borough’s surveillance system two men in the area of the public library on South Railroad Street. One of the men then ran north towards the train station and Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of West Broad and Berwick streets. The juvenile was then observed by officers near the station and he ran towards the bank. While running he was observed throwing a gun into a dumpster.
The juvenile was caught and identified as a 16-year-old from Mahanoy City. He said that Klotz had called him to come meet him at the library and gave him the gun, telling him the juvenile police were after him because of the gun. The gun was recovered from the dumpster.
Klotz later was called to the police station and admitted to having the gun and giving it to the juvenile. He said it was given to him by another person. He said after he gave the gun to the juvenile he went back home.
Klotz was arraigned before on-call District Judge James Reiley, of Pottsville, and committed to the county prison after failing to post $15,000 straight cash bail. Court records indicate he is still an inmate at the prison.
The juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, firearms not be carried without a license and recklessly endangering another person. He was turned over to Schuylkill County juvenile probation officers.
