Damages were extensive to a Towamensing Township tavern early today as fire completely engulfed the interior of the structure.

The fire happened at the Valley View Inn, located along Route 209 in Lehighton R.1, resulting in severe damages to its interior caused by fire, smoke and water. It took firefighters 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The inn is operated by Paul Berger of Aquashicola and was formerly operated for 20 years by Charles Frable of Lehighton R.3.

Frable said the building was constructed in 1939 and an addition to it was built about four years ago.
