Man crashes unlicensed motorcycle, then flees scene

A Summit Hill man who did not have a valid license has been charged after crashing his motorcycle and fleeing the scene.

According to the affidavit filed by officer Karl Harig of the Tamaqua Borough Police Department in the case against Francis Chambers II:

On Feb. 7, Harig came upon a crash on Schuylkill Avenue just south of Route 309.

A green Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Chambers, 34, was traveling north on Schuylkill Avenue when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed at the stop sign just before entering 309.

Chambers fled the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was located on scene, limping, and bleeding from the mouth.

Evidence at the scene consisted of scratch marks about 5 feet long running from the bike south on the street.

The passenger was identified by her ID. She said she was looking for her sister.

Harig asked the passenger where the driver was and she did not know. She identified him as Chambers, her fiance.

Tamaqua EMS treated the passenger, who had not been wearing a helmet and was favoring her right leg.

Hope’s Towing was called. There was no registration plate and inspection sticker so Harig used the VIN number and found it was registered to Liberty Mutual in Silver Spring, Maryland.

A check of Chambers’ driving history reveals he never had a license. He was assigned an Operator License Number, and that is suspended.

Chambers faces charges on two counts of not wearing proper headgear on motorcycle, and one count each of accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, failure to stop and give information/render aid, failure to notify police of accident/injury or death, not title certification, driving unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, driving while operating privilege suspended or revoked, speeding and careless driving.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing April 26 before District Judge Stephen J. Bayer of Tamaqua.
