Walker Twp. to upgrade Wildcat Park
The Walker Township Park Commission discussed plans with the supervisors Thursday for upgrades to Wildcat Park, located on Municipal Road, just of Wildcat Road.
The supervisors passed a motion to add James Ostergaard to the parks commission. Other members are Ron Farrell, Sue Heisler, Anne Ostergaard and Chad Felty.
Some of the improvements discussed include a new play area with new playland equipment, ADA-complaint parking spaces and a path leading to the new play area.
Improvements also include the new play equipment, mulch, resurfacing the tennis court and basketball court area, and adding a pickleball court. Some older equipment will be repainted and used, including the merry-go-round, the swing set, and possibly the monkey bars. A horseshoes game area was also discussed.
The park will need an upgraded electrical outlet, and a new one installed near the pavilion.
When ready, the supervisors will solicit bids for the new equipment. The township can save some money by doing some of the work themselves, freeing up some of the money for other areas needing more work.
“I’m excited,” said Council President Craig Wagner. “It’s some good work and I think some area businesses might want to get involved, too.”
A grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be used to pay for the upgrades. The grant requested is approximately $84,000. The grant was approved, now paperwork needs to be filed.
“There will be an agreement laid out between DCNR and us,” Felty said.
“Once that is done, then there is a timeline. That’s where we lay out what we want to do and when we want to do it. At that point, that’s when we want to move ahead with this. We will four years in which to implement everything. The biggest thing this year will be the sealing and resurfacing of the tennis and basketball courts.”
The Planning Commission will meet the third Tuesday of each month.
