Lukasevich appointed to head veterans committee

National Association of Counties President Larry Johnson recently appointed Carbon County Commissioner Chris Lukasevich to a one-year term as chair of NACo’s Veterans and Military Services Committee.

Johnson, a DeKalb County, Georgia, commissioner, announced his leadership during NACo’s 2022 Legislative Conference, where nearly 1,500 county leaders from across the nation convened both in-person and virtually to discuss federal policy priorities that impact counties and our residents.

“I am honored to lead NACo’s Veterans and Military Services Committee,” Lukasevich said. “My 25-meter target is leveraging the collective effort of a highly focused and passionate committee to bolster congressional support for the passage of the Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act (H.R. 4602/S. 2405).”

The act will strengthen County Veteran Service Officers who are counties’ “boots-on-the-ground” for connecting veterans, and their family members with earned benefits.

Active in NACo since 2020, Lukasevich, a retired Army colonel and former sergeant first class, previously served as a vice chair of the Veterans and Military Services Committee.

The Veterans and Military Services Committee engages NACo and its members to develop and highlight county best practices and policies to promote innovative programs, services and benefits for our nation’s military, veterans and their families.
