The Last of the Panther Valley Miners Club announced Sister M. Methodia, MSC, will be the guest of honor at the organization’s annual dinner and reunion.

Believed to be the only club of its kind in existence, the group consists of 24 miners who worked the Lanscoal No. 9 Mine at Lansford following the phaseout of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company’s network of collieries in the valley.

Sr. Methodia is known to have roamed freely about the chutes and gangways of the PV underground side-by-side with the miners. She established a number of simple shrines to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the dark passageways, all dedicated to the safety and well-being of the miners and their families.
