Church Town Hall
Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding a town hall meeting for parishioners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, for parishioners to discuss two questions.

West End Missions is holding its next dinner, a takeout event, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
80th anniversary
Pocono Mountains United Way will celebrate Back to the ’80s and kick off its milestone 80th anniversary (1942-2022) in funky fashion. The event will take place at Mountain View Vineyard from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25.

Dog training class
Weather permitting, the West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a free dog training class at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the West End Regional Park on Merwine Hilltop Road, Brodheadsville. That class will be presented by David J. Henon of University Pets.
The class will include basic commands for dogs and a review of basic commands and how it can help solve many behavior issues.
Learn about the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen and how it can help get discounts on a homeowners policy and how a dog can become a therapy dog.

Community supper
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding its next Community Sunday Supper from 3 to 4 p.m. this weekend. All are welcome.
Spirit week
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is celebrating Read Across America Spirit week beginning on Monday and going through Friday, with a theme for each day and related dress items for those students and staff participating.
Polk meetings
Polk Township Supervisors are handling three items on Monday.
The first session, beginning at 6:15 p.m., deals with solar power generation; the second, at 6:30 p.m., is to discuss the conditional use of a church on Interchange Road; and the third is a regular monthly meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
Bingo night
The American Legion will have a bingo night Monday, beginning with card sales at 6:30 p.m. and games beginning at 7 p.m. This night is open to the community.
There will be food specials as well.
Group tours begin
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced maple sugaring programs for schools, groups and Scouts beginning Monday and going through March 11.

Diapers needed
From Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network comes news of a need for diapers for its Diaper Pantry for both children and adults.
In addition to said diapers, there is a need for pull-ups for adults and children, bed protection pads and baby food.
Anyone who can share such information with those who have these products is asked to do so.
Donations may be brought to PVEN on Route 209 anytime as there is a collection bin on the porch of the Clothing Closet.

Prayer shawl
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Group folks will be plying their various needles again from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The group creates warmth for others, both physically and emotionally.
Free classes
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging is offering a Chronic Disease self-management program at the Loder Senior Center in East Stroudsburg for folks struggling with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Classes, which are free, are 2½ hours from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and begin March 1 and continue for five additional weeks.

WEHA meeting
The West End Home Association for American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Lenten services set
• Effort UMC will begin Lent with an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. on March 2 and each Wednesday for seven weeks. All take place in the sanctuary.
The worship at 7 p.m. includes a discussion of a study taught on video by District Superintendent Steven C. Morton, joined by Elders from the North District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.
• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will have several distributions of ashes on March 2, Ash Wednesday. They include: 8 a.m., noon and 7 p.m., Mass and ashes; and at 4 and 5:30 p.m., prayer service and ashes.
• St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, invites the community to participate in its Sunday worship services at 10 a.m. and the special Lenten evening Bible study program based on the theme: I AM.
The Rev. Zabdiel Khan, St. Peter’s pastor, will lead the study. This is a good time to explore, study and reflect upon one’s spiritual life and relationship with Jesus. All are based on the I AM statements of Jesus from the Gospel of John for meditation and reflection. The March 2 Ash Wednesday service is at 7 p.m.
• Salem UCC, Gilbert, will have a 7 p.m. service with ashes and Communion.
• Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will again be doing Ashes to Go, which will be distributed from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for anyone unable or not comfortable attending an in-person worship service.
One must be masked and remain in one’s car. There will be a worship service at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary for Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.
Masks and distancing are still being observed. One can also participate in the service via Facebook live at https://www.facebook.com/zionulc.
Special service
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is looking forward to have other Monroe County churches join in their worship at 7 p.m. March 4.
