Tamaqua man charged with strangulation

Matthew Hibbler, 19, of the 100 block of West Rowe Street, Tamaqua, has been charged with strangulation, simple assault and harassment, a summary offense.

Tamaqua Police said on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. they were dispatched to the Turkey Hill located along East Broad Street.

A man met the officers and said he was assaulted by Hibbler. He said he and others, including Hibbler, were at a home when an argument started. He said Hibbler threatened him, grabbed his throat and squeezed with force causing him to not being able to breathe.

He said Hibbler pushed him to the floor, causing the victim lower back injuries and then Hibbler used his knee and shin bone to lay on the victim’s neck once again, cutting off his breath.

Police said the victim had marks on his neck and a bruise on his lower back.
