Palmerton’s Heydt to attend RPI

Palmerton’s Lucas Heydt will continue his athletic and academic careers at RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), where he will play football.

Heydt spent four years on the varsity squad for the Blue Bombers as an athlete on offense and a linebacker on defense.

This past season, Heydt recorded 85 total tackles (47 solo, 38 assists), with seven tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, two QB hurries, a pair of interceptions, six passes defended and two fumble recoveries.

He has 214 career tackles, which is tied for 11th in school history since records were kept in this category.

On offense, Heydt had 113 pass yards to go along with 42 carries for 306 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 12 receptions for 104 yards and two scores, finishing with 812 all-purpose yards and 58 points scored.

Heydt was a team captain this past season, as Palmerton advanced to the District 11 Class 2A title game.

In addition to football, Heydt also participates in track and field, as well as Environmental Club and Student Council.

The son of Jamie and Jamie Heydt, Lucas will study Civil Engineering at RPI.
