Man charged with rape of 9-year-old

A Palmerton man has been charged with raping a girl when she was 9 and lived in Summit Hill.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Kodie Pituch of the Summit Hill Police Department in the case against Jonathan Murray:

On Jan. 22, Pituch received a call from a woman reporting that her juvenile daughter told her that she was sexually assaulted by Murray, 22, around Christmastime of 2015 when she was 9 years old.

The victim told the Children’s Advocacy Center in Scranton said that Murray received an Xbox for Christmas in 2015 and around that time asked her to come to his bedroom to play Xbox.

That’s when she said Murray assaulted her.

The victim said she was assaulted multiple times for months until Murray turned 17 and began dating someone.

Murray faces charges of rape of child; statutory sexual assault; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with child; sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault; and indecent assault.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 2 before District Judge Edward Lewis.
