Franklin Twp. fire company announces fundraisers, events
Members of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, fire police and auxiliary are finalizing plans for many upcoming fundraising events.
Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Fire Company Auxiliary, outlined the fire company’s fundraisers set to take shape this spring.
Along with weekly Thursday night bingo, there are dances, dinners, a hunter’s day, high-stakes bingo, the annual car show and breakfast, the festive block party with fireworks in July, and the ever-popular Giant Yard Sale in August.
Fundraisers
• March 27: Annual Outdoor Adventure Day will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the fire hall. There will be a silent auction of family-style activities, including tickets to an Iron Pigs game and rafting packages. There will be raffles, door prizes, family activities, crafts, contests, entertainment and music by a DJ. The kitchen will be open offering homemade chili, chicken potpie and halushki as well as food from the fryer. S’mores and hot dogs will be made over an open fire. There is no admission charge and everyone is encouraged to come out.
• April 9: Lehighton Rotary Club will hold its Inaugural Lehighton Handmade Spring Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Rotary will utilize both the fire company hall and parking lot nearest the building for vendor set up. Handicapped parking will be available and there will be plenty of parking in the field. The kitchen will be open serving vendor breakfast (if desired) and throughout the day. The Handmade Holiday Craft Show has also been scheduled for Nov. 5 at the fire company.
• April 12: The annual Easter Filling Sale will take place. Orders must be placed by April 5 by contacting Chris at 610-377-8573 or Peg at 610-379-4614. Filling is still priced at only $7 per quart. Pick up at the fire company starting at 1 p.m. April 12. An additional sale will also be held for Thanksgiving.
• April 15: The Good Friday Pizza Sale. Orders must be placed by April 5 by contacting Pat at 570-778-9229 or Pam at 484-464-0645. Pick up is at the fire company starting at 1 p.m. April 15. Pizza sales will also be held on July 8 and Nov. 28.
• April 22: The auxiliary will kick off its Take Out Dinners. A choice of baked chicken or baked haddock will be offered, with filling and gravy or mashed potatoes, a vegetable, apple sauce and bread and butter. Place orders with Pat at 570-778-9229 or Chris at 610-377-8573 by April 19. If there is no answer, leave a call back number. Pickup is at the fire company between 3:30 and 6 p.m. on April 22. Additional dinners have been scheduled for May 6, June 17, July 15, Sept. 16, Oct. 7 and Oct. 28.
• April 23: The first of two High Stakes Bingo games will be held. Doors open at noon, games start at 2 p.m., and the kitchen will be open. Information and tickets are available by calling Pat at 570-778-9229 or Jenn at 570-778-5330. The second High Stakes Bingo has been slated for Sept. 24.
• April 27: A Life Line Health Screening will take place at the fire company. Screenings include those for carotid artery, abdominal critic aneurysm, PAD screening, osteoporosis and/or atrial fibrillation. Preregistration is required for screenings (1-800-772-8260) or by visiting www.lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle and specifying Franklin Township Fire Company location. Please discuss these tests with your doctor and update your insurance records before scheduling.
• April 30: The final event for the beginning of the year is a Country Dance featuring East Penn Dixie. The band performs the music of country artists Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban and Luke Bryan among others. The price of admission includes a buffet meal, on-tap beverages and desserts. Mixed drinks, wine and wine coolers will be available for purchase. The fire company cannot allow BYOB. Doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and music at 7 p.m. Get tickets now by calling Bob at 570-401-4454. Another dance is being arranged for Oct. 1.
