A Summit Hill native now living in Allentown was recently appointed assistant director to Andrew V. Palm, director of District 10 of the United Steelworkers of America.

Edward O’Brien will now be responsible for overseeing an office staff of 24 and directing the affairs of approximately 30,000 Steelworkers.

A graduate of the former Summit Hill High School, where he was a standout athlete, O’Brien began his career as a Steelworker in 1964 at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and quickly became involved in union activities, holding several committee positions.

In 1985, he joined the International Staff as a representative serving local unions in the Allentown/Bethlehem area.
