Fillies cruise past Nativity
The Marian girls basketball team rolled to an easy victory over Nativity on Thursday.

A strong first half performance helped Marian close out the regular season with a 56-34 Schuylkill League win over Nativity.
Ashley Pleban netted 12 of her game-high 17 points in the opening half for Fillies (18-4 overall; 12-1 SL). Fatikha Tikhtova added 13 points and Frankie Martinelli chipped 10 points in the win.
Kami Abdo had 10 points to lead the Golden Girls (7-13; 6-7).

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area
Mahanoy Area caught fire from beyond the arc as 10 three-pointers fueled the Golden Bears’ 51-27 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
Caitlin Kessock led the Golden Bears four three pointers for 12 points. Allison Babinsky added two more treys and also finished with 12 points.
Bethany Houser and Emma Kane had 10 points apiece for paced the Wreckers (5-15; 1-11).

Pottsville defeated Tamaqua, 42-37, in Schuylkill League play.
The Blue Raiders (8-14 overall; 2-12 SL) led 18-14 lead at halftime, but the Tide (13-8; 7-7) pulled ahead thanks to a 15-5 run in the third quarter.
Trenyce Wingler led the Blue Raiders with a team-high 13 points, while Serena Jones added 10 points.
The Tides’ Julia Kowalski led all scorers with 19 points.

Marian couldn’t hold onto a first quarter lead as Tri-Valley posted a 74-67 Schuylkill League win.
Brendan Lonergan’s 26-point performance led the Colts (12-6 overall; 6-4 SL). Teammates Logan Fritz and Frank Valente chipped in with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Layne Yoder sparked the Bulldogs (18-4; 10-2) with 25 points.
