Fellowship event
There will be a fellowship breakfast at Effort UMC on Sunday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
This is a freewill donation event, with the proceeds going to the church’s Capital Improvement Fund.
Two celebrations
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is holding a double celebration on Sunday.
That celebration will include Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday.
Families are being asked to have their child/children bring in a picture of themselves no larger than 4 by 6 inches.
Also, all children are being asked to wear their favorite football team jersey in celebration of Super Bowl Sunday that day.
Riders meet
The American Legion Chapter 927 Legion Riders is holding its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Guests are welcome.
Sunday supper
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is again having a Community Sunday Supper from 3 to 4 p.m. this Sunday. All are welcome.
SAL meeting
Sons of the American Legion are slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Legion Hall in Gilbert. Guests are welcome.
VALOR PTSD meets
VALOR sponsored PTSD support group monthly meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Post 927 Main Hall in Gilbert. This meeting is open to anyone. One need not be a Post 927 member to attend. Guests are welcome.

On Feb. 18, there will be an American Blood drive at the Pleasant Valley High School.
Soup sale
Effort UMC is holding its last soup sale until September. Orders for chicken pot pie soup and hearty beef vegetable noodle will be taken through the Feb. 23. The pickup date is Feb. 27.

PVEN needs
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network can use the following according to Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville, a PVEN supporting member: Food Pantry, cereal, tuna, mac & cheese and taco kits; Clothing Closet, toiletries, winter coat and clothing, hats, gloves and mittens for children, and sheets.
Monday meeting
The Women’s Group at Effort UMC will be meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Valentine’s Day. The group looks for ways to support the church and its various mission projects.
Free dinner
Zion Lutheran will again be hosting a free community dinner by way of drive-thru pickup from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 16.
Soup and bake sale
McMichaels UMC is holding a homemade soup and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 19.
There will be a large selection of soups and baked goods. Baked goods will be sold whole or by a single piece.
Attendees are asked to please wear a mask as they drop by and make their selections. The event is takeout only.
The church continues to host Serenity Narcotics Anonymous, which meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
The meeting is open to all who need to talk and fellowship with those who understand what one is experiencing and how to get the help one needs and the desire to overcome problems.
The meeting is free and confidential.
Alcoholics Anonymous will be meeting every Wednesday at noon and every Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
For assistance with this issue, join one or both of these meetings and receive help.
Attendees will be gathering with others who understand.
Becker scholarship
The Monroe County Conservation District and members of the Stanley Becker family have announced that applications are now being accepted for the 15th annual Stanley Becker Memorial Scholarship.
This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior in Monroe County who is planning on attending college and majoring in an environmental field.
To apply, students may print an application or apply online at www.mcconservation.org. Deadline for applications is April 1.

Time to Heal
Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, has announced a Time to Heal class which is a confidential eight-week journey toward hope, healing, and restoration for men and women who have suffered the trauma of drug abuse and all other types of abuse.
Classes, which are open to anyone, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., separately, each Tuesday, starting March 8 through April 26. Spaces are limited.

Maple sugaring set
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced maple sugaring programs for schools, groups and Scouts.
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center conducts tours of its maple sugaring site in Marshalls Creek in February and March for schools, Scouts, home-schoolers and other interested groups.
Two-hour tours include stops at stations providing information on the history of maple sugaring, which dates back to the Native Americans, the evaporating process that is used today and provides attending groups with the opportunity to tap a maple tree whose sap will be used in the 2022 maple syrup production.
Also shown are methods of collecting maple sap, and finally, the cooking process that produces the sweet maple syrup.
Dates this year for organized groups have been set for Feb. 28 through March 11.
